| Ron Harris is commonly acclaimed as the best captain ever to play for Chelsea FC. Ron notched up by far the most appearances in the history of Chelsea, with an amazing 795-plus appearances for the Blues during a career lasting from 1962 to 1980. Ron won the FA Youth Cup in 1961, won a League Cup winners' medal in 1965 and was captain when the club triumphed in the FA Cup and Cup Winners' Cup in 1970 and 71. Affectionately nicknamed “Chopper” due to the ferocity of his challenges Ron was, and remains, one of the most passionate people in football. He served under a number of great managers including Tommy Docherty and Dave Sexton and captained their teams in his own special way. Ron’s after-dinner stories vividly bring back the golden age of football, when front page stories about the game were more likely to make you laugh than cry. |
